Fundraiser and Book Drive for Texas

Hurrican-Relief-Logo_White-State-Red-Heart-Black-LogoStarting today, until November 20th,  the NA Charitable Group (a subcommittee of the ELC PTO) is sponsoring a fundraiser to help the Victoria, TX Independent School District in their rebuilding and replacing efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

Here is how you can help!  Donate at GoFundMe, send a check the the ELC PTO (memo VTXFUND) or purchase books on the Amazon Book Wish List that will be sent directly to the school libraries that need them.  After that, SHARE it all with your friends and family!  Find and LIKE us on Facebook and share there or start at the GoFundMe site and share from there on Facebook, Twitter or by email.

Thank you in advance for your support.  With your help, we can help get these kids their libraries back and running and show direct support, one community to another.

Get Ready, Get Set, ELC!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at the ELC!

And welcome to the ELC PTO, here is a look at what we do…

It has been a long summer and we are looking forward to a great year filled with many long time favorites and new exciting additions.  The ELC PTO meets once a month and we always welcome input and help both large and small.  Join us sometime!

Here is a quick look at some things to look forward to in September…

  • Our first PTO meeting of the school year on 9/14 at 7:15 pm
  • PTO Playdate from 11-11:45 am on 9/19 – FREE 🙂 Stay after school or come a bit early.  Meet other students and parents.  Light snacks provided.
  • Spirit Day on 9/28 – Wear school gear or colors and show our support for our Nurse Mrs. Gaudette by donating $1 or items from her wishlist. These goodies help her keep the kids calm and happy when they need her help.
  • Family Fun Day – 9/30 11:30 am Super Stroll and 12-3 Family Fun. We will have a DJ, free food, a bake sale, face painting, games and more all kicked off with a Super Stroll around the building.  Keep an eye out for an order form to get a starter pack to create your own cape!  Top capes will win a prize and proceeds will help the PTO pay for enrichment programs.
  • Our September newsletter will go home in backpacks next week with more information!

Busy busy!

We have a lot going on over at the ELC right now!  The PTO has been busy planning and  it seems to all be landing in the next week or so.  First, TONIGHT is PIZZA NIGHT!!  Skip you dinner plans and order out from Plainville House of Pizza.  Mention the ELC and some of the proceeds of your pepperoni will benefit the kids,  Second, tonight, there is a meeting at the ELC held by the district to discuss a new report card format for next school year (pre-k-5th grade).  Third, the ELC PTO is hosting an open house meet and greet starting at 6:15 in the ELC lobby.  Come for the snacks and chit chat with PTO members and stay for the info on report cards after.  Sarah will also have the school store open.  Fourth, we are having our visit from Langwater Farm tomorrow so be on the lookout for a little plant coming home soon.  Tomorrow is also SPIRIT DAY!  Wear your school gear to show some spirit and bring non-perishables or $1 to donate to Lenore’s Pantry.

Next week, Wednesday the 24th the kids will have a visit from Cindy Tuminelli; parents and siblings join us! (10 am or 12:30 pm).  Our next PTO meeting is also Wednesday the 24th at 7:15 pm in the teachers’ lounge.  Please come get to know us!  We’d love to see you there as we are finishing out this school year and starting some plans for next already.  The kids will wrap up next week on Thursday with a presentation on sign language.  What a busy few weeks and lots of fun to match the kids’ spirits now that the sunshine is BACK!

Dirt classroom!

The PTO is so proud and excited to unveil the new addition to the school!  For Teacher Appreciation Week, the teachers decided they were interested in a raised bed garden so the PTO delivered – FOUR OF THEM!  There are now four 4×4′ raised garden beds in the school yard.  On May 18th, Kate O’Dwyer, owner and farmer of Langwater Farm in Easton, will be visiting to educate the kids on farming, seasonality, seeds and more.  The kids will be able to plant their own seeds in a pot to take home and Kate is also bringing an assortment of vegetable plants for the teachers and students to plant in the beds.    Once the garden is producing, the ELC will donate much of the yield (green fingers crossed!) to Lenore’s Pantry to continue supporting those in need in our community.  The ELC is also a member of the URI School Garden Program which can offer education, tools, and support from local Master Gardeners should we find ourselves in need.  Dr. Ekk is an avid gardener and looking forward to tending the garden throughout the season.

The ELC staff and PTO are so excited to offer this multidimensional learning tool for the students.  Teaching the kids to tend a garden and grow food supports many science, language, math, sensory, motor, problem solving skills and beyond.  Hopefully this dirt classroom will be a wonderful tool for the teachers for years to come!  Thank you to everyone who has participated in our fundraisers!  These are the best sorts of things we are able to do with all of your wonderful and generous support.  Bring on the sunshine!

Spirit Day and Bubble Man!!

bubble mantennessee-christian-march-4

What a rainy Tuesday it is!  Tomorrow should be brighter and warmer to celebrate another Spirit Day!  Wear you ELC gear or just red to show your school spirit and consider donating any amount to the Reach Out for Families and Youth Campaign (ROFY) by the Hockomock YMCA.  Any and all donations are welcome and appreciated to help support this wonderful cause that benefits the youth in need of our community.

The Bubble Man is coming!  Thursday The Bubble Man will put on one show in the morning at 10 and another in the afternoon at 12:30.  Families and siblings are welcome to join students for one of the favorite enrichment programs of the year!

Last, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the March Mayhem fundraiser!!!  All 31 winners have been notified.  If you haven’t picked up your prize yet, please do so at your earliest convenience.  Over $4000 was raised to go towards more enrichment activities for the students.  Amazing!!
